Meredith Mitchell

Maximizing Production From Native Grasses

Meredith Mitchell has worked as a research scientist with the Department of Primary Industries Victoria for the past 18 years. She is also part of the CRC for Plant Based Management of Dryland Salinity. Her research has focused on the selection of native grass cultivars for agricultural systems, management of existing native grass pastures. Meredith was part of the successful LIGULE native grass selection project, from which six native grass cultivars have been released. Meredith has a vision of a sustainable agricultural landscape based on perennial native grasses.

How to Bugger up a Native Pasture.

Pat McVeigh has had extensive experience with native pastures and grazing management, both as a practicing farmer and also from his earlier role in the Department of Primary Industries. Pat currently owns and manages 775 Ha in which native grasses dominate.

 At Ian and Amanda McClaren’s property “ Yapunyah” 254 Mt Camel-Graytown Rd, Graytown.

Directions:

From Nagambie, take the Heathcote Road for approximately 22km, turn right into Mt Camel-Graytown Road. Travel approximately 2.5km, turn right into “Yapunyah” then follow the signs to the field day tent.

From Heathcote, travel towards Nagambie for approximately 25 km turn left into Mt Camel-Graytown Road. Travel approximately 2.5km, turn right into “Yapunyah” then follow the signs to the field day tent.

 Tea and coffee will be available, but please bring a seat
