I always seem to have more weeds in my vegie garden than vegies. Very frustrating. Last year I was discussing this with a friend who suggested that I eat some of the weeds. Which ones?
I started with purslane, a very easy one to recognize. I later discovered that purslane was actually grown as a vegetable early last century. Since then I have tried more weeds. I no longer buy expensive salad greens with all the attendant chemicals and I save on my food miles.
Doris Pozzi , who was recently featured in Gourmet Traveller and the Diamond Valley Leader (check out the Leader website) will be leading an effortless Edible Weeds Walk showing you which weeds we can eat. Doris has also appeared on 3 AW.
Steve O’Loughlin will be cooking up a storm with weeds so there will be an opportunity to see how to cook with weeds and taste them for yourself.
