GET INVOLVED! HELP BUILD A BETTER WEBSITE: LANDCARE GATEWAY REBUILD The Victorian Landcare Program has committed to building a fantastic online resource for the Landcare community and its members. The new website will be launched later this year. Register your interest (before June 30) to help build a better website go to http://thick.ly/landcare-project

The 2015 Review of the Victorian Landcare Program recommended the need for improvement to the program’s communication tools, including the Victorian Landcare Gateway, to better inform, share and collaborate with the Landcare community. Our goal is to build an easy-to-use and intuitive website that meets the needs of the Landcare community.

AUSTRALIA’S BIOSECURITY ARRANGEMENTS: HAVE YOUR SAY Stakeholders across the country are being encouraged to have their say on Australia’s biosecurity system and the agreement that underpins it – the Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity (IGAB). To ensure its ongoing effectiveness, Australian agriculture ministers agreed to a comprehensive review of the IGAB and a broader examination of Australia’s biosecurity system. The closing date for submissions is 5pm (AEST) 8 July 2016. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT LEGISLATION AMENDMENT (PLANNING) BILL 2016 (Vic) Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) is leading reforms to Victoria’s arrangements that apply to planning for emergencies. Effective planning is vital in preparing for emergencies of all kinds that may affect the Victorian community. All submissions on the Exposure Draft must be received by 30 June 2016. HELP CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF LANDCARE! Landcare in Victoria will celebrate a major milestone – its 30th birthday! DELWP are calling on Landcarers young and old to share their stories through photographs and videos. To mark this special occasion we would like to showcase the array of wonderful Landcare projects, events, achievements and the changes that have taken place over the last three decades. We’re particularly looking for photos showing the progress of projects over time, milestones for your group/network, people participating in events, and more generally, what Landcare means to you. GRANTS & OPPORTUNITIES AUSTRALIAN ETHICAL’S 2016 COMMUNITY GRANTS Closing Monday, 27 June at 10am Grants are for $5,000, $10,000, and $20,000 and will fund small capital items and specific project costs with clear outcomes including protecting the environment, sustainability, biological cultural heritage. CANON ENVIRONMENTAL GRANTS Applications close on Friday 5 August 2016 Canon Oceania is now appealing for applicants for its annual environmental in-kind grants program. Grants are available to Australian and New Zealand schools, community groups and not-for-profit organisations making a positive impact on their environment and community. Recipients will be will be given their choice of $5,000 (retail value) of Canon equipment for use in their project. BUSINESS RESOURCE ASSESSMENT GRANTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE Sustainability Victoria is offering grants to help Victorian businesses get more out of the materials they purchase and save money. Funding of up to $10,000 is available to eligible small and medium sized businesses to review activities, and identify, and implement resource efficiency improvements. HINDMARSH PLANT-OUTS Greening Australia and the Hindmarsh Landcare Network will again team up for the 2016 Project Hindmarsh plant-out weekend. This year, the plant-out will be on the weekend of 25-26 June instead of the traditional third weekend in August. WORK SAFE OUTDOORS WorkSafe Victoria has released a new safety alert in response to recent incidents involving workers being killed and injured when working outdoors, alone and/or in isolation. The Safety Alert lists some basic risk control measures to assist in devising a safe system of work for employees who work outdoors, especially when operating alone or in isolation. LANDCARE EMPLOYMENT CHECKLIST Just a reminder coming up to 30 June about the Landcare Employment checklist. It is a guide to assist landcare groups and networks in employing or engaging staff. It is not designed to cover all issues around staff management but rather to be a starting point for action. If you need more information on any of the items on the checklist DELWP has put together a Useful Links on the Employment of Landcare Support Staff resource or contact the FTLA on 03 9207 5527 or ftla@vff.org.au.
