ASSOCIATIONS INCORPORATIONS – CHANGES & INFORMATION SESSIONS

The Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 has been passed by the Victorian Parliament and the changes come into effect on 26 November 2012. This means the FTLA will need to change its Rules in line with the new Act and the new Model Rules, however this should have minimal day to day impact on the operations of FTLA Member Groups.

Around twenty per cent of FTLA Member Groups are also incorporated in their own right, so those groups are advised to change their own Rules as well (otherwise there are some very messy deeming provisions to deal with). You may have already received a letter from Consumer Affairs on this matter. Once the regulations and new Model Rules have been released in their final form we send out additional information to groups.

Any group currently considering becoming incorporated in their own right may wish to delay the process until after the 26 November 2012 so as not to have to deal with the transition,

Free information sessions are being run by Consumer Affairs in the following locations.

Consumer Affairs Victoria will be running free information sessions on how the changes will affect incorporated associations. The sessions will focus on:

  • adapting to the new laws
  • making or changing rules
  • how to submit financial statements
  • statutory obligations.

Please see http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/news-and-events/events/incorporated-associations-free-information-sessions for full details. Bookings are essential:
