Entries are now open for the 2017 Fire Awareness Awards, with individuals, community groups and organisations encouraged to submit innovative projects that help reduce the incidence and impact of fire in Victoria.
RACV Insurance is a longstanding supporter of Victoria's Fire Awareness Awards and provides a $10,000 Award for Excellence to the most outstanding entry delivered by community groups, schools, not-for-profit organisations, volunteer or individuals from community categories.
In the last 2 years a number of Landcare Groups and Networks have been celebrated for leading or partnering in projects that help prepare and recover from fire:
Kiewa Catchment Landcare Groups - Indigenous Fire Knowledge Project
Black Hill Reserve partnership project (including Upper Campaspe Landcare Network).
Upper Maribyrnong Catchment Landcare Group: Landcare-led Recovery After 2014 Mickleham-Kilmore Fires
South West Goulburn Landcare Network: Community Fire Recovery Initiative
Wimmera CMA, working with Project Platypus Landcare Network: Wimmera fire prevention partnership
Scotsburn Community Recovery Committee, including Leigh Catchment Landcare Group.
This year there are five community categories that individuals and groups can enter, demonstrating the breadth of work and contributions that happen within communities.
