The Birchip Landcare Group conducted a survey of wetland-dependent fauna at 28 sites covering an area around Birchip during the four seasons in 2003-2004. The survey was in response to concern regarding the loss of farm dams and the associated loss of fauna when the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline is built.

The project was funded by an Australian Government Envirofund grant and was conducted by the Birchip Landcare Group in conjunction  with Central Highlands Enviromental Consultancy. The Centre for Enviromental Management in conjunction with ecoloGIS assisted in undertaking the Bat Survey component of the survey.
