The group covers the upper catchment of the King River, from the Edi Cutting, through Whitfield and up to Cheshunt.The Upper King Basin Landcare Group was officially formed in April 1997.
Our group aims to:
-Develop community awareness, education
-Encourage community participation
-Educate through initiating action
-Provide a forum for action
-Identify common local goals & priorities for sustainable land management issues
-Solve with local solutions
-Access funding for projects
-Provide co-ordination & facilitate district action
-Ensure follow-up where appropriate (eg. weed control)
-Provide leadership
-Share ideas - what works, what doesn't, issues & concerns
-Provide a united voice to address issues 

As well as local community support, the Upper King Basin Landcare Group has good working relationships with the Rural City of Wangaratta, the North East Catchment Management Authority, a number of Wangaratta businesses  and Parks Victoria. We also receive local advice and strong support from the Whitfield Office of the Department of Environment & Natural Resources for which we are very grateful.
