Mount Pleasant Creek Catchment Landcare Group
The Mt Pleasant Creek Catchment Landcare Group formed in January 2002.  It covers approximately 18 300 hectares in the localities of Toolleen, Myola and Muskerry East.  Activities have included weed control, erosion control, tree planting, protection of remnant vegetation, monitoring the watertable and water quality.  The Landcare Group is also involved in the "Adopt-a-Highway" program at Toolleen and conducts twice yearly litter collections.
The Landcare Group held its inaugral meeting on 25 January 2002.  One of the first activities was a bus tour of the area to familiarise members with the diversity of the district and the variety of landuse pursuits.  The Landcare Group has covered a wide range of topics over the past few years with excursions, field days and guest speakers.  These activities include:  plane flights over the whole catchment; field days on soils and weeds; bus tours to Creswick Landcare centre and surrounding district; bus tour to Pyramid Hill to inspect salt works and then a visit to Kerang where successful plantings of saltbush and trees have greatly improved the viability of a property; guest speakers on topics such as pest plants and animals, watertable bore monitoring, chemical use and regulations, tree planting, native vegetation, salinity, alternative enterprises; and fox control.
Committee members have participated in a number of Shire of Campaspe Landcare Network meetings and events organised by the North Central CMA.  Regular newsletters are distributed to group members and the local community.
The Mt Pleasant Creek Catchment Landcare Group would welcome new members.  Your participation could be as simple as taking care to eradicate the weeds around your home or managing remnant vegetation on your property.  Family membership is $15 per year.  For more information, please contact the Secretary Pat Johnson by phoning 03 54 329 335 or by using the contact link below.
