Balcombe Moorooduc Landcare Group inspires school children to connect with the natural environment.
Penbank grade 4 kids have now for 4 years built habitats for their selected wildlife species under the guidance of their teacher, Matt Chambers. They even produced an internet page to show their efforts.
On June 19 a team of 38 kids together with a dozen parents were shown by our secretary, Tony O’Connor, how to set a 3-peg guard around each plant, and by our president, landscaper Martin Edney, how to fill the hole half with water before inserting the plants.
Each student had a designated area marked out on the ground by the vice president, Nick Veltjens, to plant 13 seedlings in the spots spray-marked by Martin. It took just one hour for the team to plant 500 plants. A fantastic effort.
Another 300 plants will be planted during next school term
