Melbourne Water is currently in the process of divesting a number of properties that it owns in Christmas Hills that were originally purchased with the view to constructing a second water storage dam, that will now not proceed.
This land comprises 113 lots totalling just over 1000 hectares.
With the view to optimising the protection of the rich environmental values of Christmas Hills, as well as retaining the cleared land for future agricultural opportunities, the Christmas Hills Landcare Group prepared a desired outcome and tested this with the wider community. This now has wide community support and is is being referred to as the "Landcare position" (see "Resources" for a copy)
