Clarkefield and District Farm Landcare Group has undertaken many projects on private properties. In 2005 the group initiated a works program in an area of public land adjoining Jacksons Creek at the Old Bridge, Riddell Rd. This project provides an example of what can be done through joint participation of Councils, a landcare group and Melbourne Water. The site posed all the challenges of weed control including willows, blackberries, gorse and a degraded grassland. The Groups is particularly pleased with the enthusiastic assistance it has received from Macedon Ranges and Hume Councils, and the work of Melbourne Water in removing willows and woody weeds. The group plans to continue a program of weed spraying, mulching and planting at the site. Its vision is that by setting an example of weed eradication and revegetation it will encourage private landholders to continue the program along the creek.
