Victorian Landcare Magazine - Spring, Issue 92
The Horrie Poussard Prize was established in 2023 to commemorate the late Horrie Poussard’s contribution to the Victorian landcare ovement. Horrie was Victoria’s first landcare executive officer. He ormed training groups, created incentive grants and educational materials and oversaw the formation of the first 50 groups in Victoria.
Horrie maintained a close interest in landcare for the rest of his life and was committed to telling the landcare story.
The winners of this year’s Horrie Poussard Prize, Cassie Wright and Jillian Staton, showed how landcare is shaped by curious people with open minds who are willing to challenge accepted norms.
Their story, published on page eight and nine of edition 90 of the Victorian Landcare Magazine, drew on strong farmer quotes and made the process of establishing multispecies pastures easy to understand.
The article explained the scientific feedback from the trial clearly, helping readers see both the practical approach and the evidence behind the results. Judges commented this was the kind of story that would encourage farmers to consider multispecies pastures.
It also demonstrated the value of trying something new, collecting results and sharing what is learnt.
