Dung Beetles, all about them, presented by Grace Evans of Southern Farming Systems

The ‘Beetle Mania’ session will involve a theory component, (what are they, what do they do, how do we identify them, how do the breed, what is their lifecycle etc) followed after lunch with an on-ground search for beetles, and then finally a demonstration as to how to set up nursery.

The workshop will be presented by Grace Evans Senior Research and Extension Officer for Southern Farming Systems (SFS). Grace since starting with SFS in 2019, has been involved in undertaking many trial assessments and extension events and is focussed on the SFS Variety by Management nitrogen and contract trials, the Landcare Dung Beetle work and supports the cropping team project management.

Dung Beetles are fascinating creatures, working tirelessly to bury dung around the country, often going unnoticed. As soon as you begin to understand the importance of these little creatures as one of nature’s greatest recyclers you will never look at a pile of dung the same.

This workshop is made possible as a result of a 2023 SCS Natural Environment Grant
