Bus departs for Meredith dairy at 9:30am sharp, from the Modewarre Landcare Centre, 910 Cape Otway Road, Modewarre...

Torquay Landcare Group’s (TLG) second Farm Tour for the year will be to the Meredith Dairy, the largest sheep and goat dairy in Australia, milking over 500 sheep and goats daily, producing award winning cheeses.

The Cameron family has built up a property of over 4,000 acres, and believes that their business has been so successful because of their sustainability ethics and practices: financially, environmentally and socially. They have received awards for Farm Entrepreneur of the Year, have been finalists in the NAB agribusiness awards, and are the current holders of the Victorian Landcare Producer of the Year award.

The family is passionate about Landcare and sustainable farming practices, utilising ‘no till’, controlled traffic, raised bed cropping.  They have preserved rare native volcanic plain grassland, and have carried out large-scale re-vegetation of the once degraded Cargerie Creek. The tour will inspect aspects of the dairy (animal quarantine permitting) and paddocks where much on-ground landcare is in evidence.

Following the farm visit, we will stop at Lethbridge Wines, where Meredith cheese will be available for tasting and sale. Morning tea and picnic lunch is catered for by TLG. The day, including transport, morning tea & picnic lunch is at no cost to those on the tour, thanks to DPI who receive grants for this purpose from CCMA and the Federal Government, Caring for Country program.
