2.00 - 2.05pm Welcome to Country
2.05 - 2.15pm Introduction by the Meeting in the Middle Committee
2.15 - 3.15pm Dr Gupta Vadakattu - Soil microbiology - the basics.
This talk is on what we know about microbial communities in
agricultural soils, their regulators and the potential to maximize
the benefits through better management
Dr Vadakattu is a Senior Research Scientist with the Soil
Ecology team in CSIRO Entomology, in Adelaide
3.15 - 3.30pm Afternoon tea
3.30 - 4.30pm Dr Graeme Schwenke - Impacts of inputs on soil biota
This talk summarises both the intended main effects and
unintended side-effects of various agricultural inputs on soil
organisms.
Dr Schwenke is a soil scientist with NSW Department of
Primary Industries, based at the Tamworth Agricultural Institute.
4.30 - 5.30pm Mr David Marsh - Pasture cropping - a grazing perspective.
How our farming systems can achieve multiple benefits for the
environment, community and our productivity through the use
of practical tools.
Mr Marsh is a grazier on a 814ha property on the South-West
slopes at Boorowa. He has a long history of working proactively
towards solutions that optimise farming systems to meet
multiple objectives. David has been actively involved with a
variety of programs and groups working towards the same goal.
Learn about the invisible world beneath our feet and how
some of the smallest organisms living in our soils can have
some of the biggest impacts on soil health.
