Our washed out winter spotlight walk was on that wonderful night when it last rained.
Showing resilience, the Rutherglen Landcare is again hosting an evening spotlight walk on Saturday 1st September. Jim Blackney, coordinator with Trust for Nature, will lead the search for wildlife in our local trees.
6.15 pm Saturday 1st SEPTEMBER
Meet at the Rutherglen Wine Experience Information Centre Carpark
57 Main Street Rutherglen
“There are a number of rare animals living in the area, such as squirrel gliders and brush-tailed phascogales” said Jim. “Spotlighting is a good way to see them, as they are generally not active during the day.”
The secretive nocturnal animals can be in an area but largely remain unnoticed. The spotlight walk will take in the old Rutherglen Racecourse, then the United Mine Site. So why not come along with us for an evening with a difference!
Adults and children are welcome to join the event, which will include billy tea. People should bring a mug and a torch. A pair of binoculars would also be useful.
Format of Evening
- The activity will take around two and a half hours.
- We will start the evening with a stag watch at dusk (to see the gliders emerging from their beds), followed by a spotlight walk,
- Billy tea & coffee to follow by a campfire!
