Maintenance along Forest Creek Castlemaine
It’s the start of another year’s landcaring for Castlemaine Landcare Group. We’re going to start the year on a stretch of Forest Creek we haven’t visited for a while – the area around the wooden footbridge opposite the Castle Motel.
You can park both sides of the creek (in Greenhill Avenue or in the parking area opposite the motel in Duke Street).
At this time of the year the woody weeds are in full flight so we need to remove them while they’re obvious. This will involve some cutting and painting with herbicide. Those of you with brushcutters will also be gainfully employed.
For those new to working bees, the most useful tools are brushcutters, long-handled pruners, secateurs and small hand mattocks. The Group has some, but if you can bring your own it always helps.
Since it’s summer we’ll be starting at 9am, which means morning tea at 10.30am courtesy of our caterer par excellence, Matthew Brownrigg. If you can help him out with a cake or nibbles that would be great.
