A free, family-friendly event to rediscover, enjoy, learn about and help Bendigo Creek in the Huntly Streamside Reserve.
Northern Bendigo Landcare group are turning 16 and inviting everyone to help them celebrate at a Cruise The Creek event on Sunday 17th September, between 10am and 2pm.
The event will begin at 10 with a Djaara Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country but participants can come along any time during the event to walk/cycle the Huntly Streamside Reserve and stop off at activities of interest.
In 'choose your own adventure' style there will be a variety of activities on offer, with something for everyone including:
• Seed ball making
• Bird treasure hunt
• History of Huntly Streamside Reserve
• Nestbox peeking
• Ask a Ranger with Parks Victoria
• Water Quality testing
• Prickly planting for small birds
• Waterbug sampling
• Indian Myna talk
• Outdoor activities (kite flying, frisbee, parachute games, etc)
Kids can get their event passport stamped along the way and gather clues to solve the Bendigo Creek Quiz.
Participants can complete the full route (3km) or part thereof at their leisure on the reserve track suitable for walking, cycling and prams/carts. So put on your walking shoes, bring your bike (and helmet) or load the kids into the pram/cart to cruise the event loop and enjoy free family fun along the way.
Use of vehicles discouraged for participant safety but transport available for those who need it.
Bendigo Creek habitat restoration has been our group's major on-ground project over the past 13 years and we look forward to sharing it with the community.
Parking available at the Huntly Streamside Reserve picnic area on Leans Rd Huntly, toilets provided enroute, free BBQ and refreshment station with birthday cupcakes !
