Whirrakee Wattle (Acacia williamsonii) is virtually endemic to the Bendigo region, growing in very few locations other than the Whipstick, Wellsford and Kamarooka forests surrounding Huntly. It is classified as rare in Victoria.

We work hard to promote the Whirrakee Wattle, unique to our district. We raise community awareness of our 'floral emblem' by;
* Collecting Whirrakee Wattle seed on an annual basis
* Sowing seed and raising seedlings for distribution - if you are after seedlings, get in touch or like our Facebook page for release dates each year.
* Educating local students; Whirrakee Wattle is Huntly Primary school's logo and Whirrakee is the name of one of Huntly Kindergarten's student groups
* Working with the City of Greater Bendigo to have our town entrance signs showcase Whirrakee Wattle
* Working with council and other community groups to install sculptural signage at the Huntly Memorial Hall
