This event is part of
A property visit and weed control works
Landcaring in Christmas Hills
The first in the program of Christmas Hills Landcare activities for 2008 is:
“Control of woody weeds”
A property visit and weed control works
at the Melling’s property
opposite Jackie’s at 1010 Skyline Road(meet at Jackie’s)
from 2pm - 5pm on Sunday, 4th May, 2008
Linda and Paul Melling own significant land with remnant vegetation along Skyline Road. Some of this vegetation has been invaded by a variety of weeds, including Sweet Pittosporum, Radiate Pine, Boneseed, Cootamundra Wattle, Bluebell Creeper and Agapanthus.
We will start with a walk around parts of the property with the Mellings to admire its natural values. Garry Lovell will then demonstrate some woody weed control techniques and explain some other techniques for controlling these weeds, before we then get a chance to practise some of these techniques ourselves.
Please wear sturdy footwear, and bring any of: secateurs, bow saw, gardening gloves, small hatchet, small paint brushes or small dropper bottles (for applying herbicide to cut surfaces)
We are hoping to be able to provide herbicide dabbers (empty shoe polish dispensers) for people to take with them and use on weeds at home

The rough program for the day is:
2:00pm – 2:45pm Guided walk around the property to discover some of its natural values
2:45pm – 4:15pm Weed control techniques – the cut-and-paint, frilling and hand-pulling techniques will be demonstrated and then practised on some of the weeds occurring relatively close to the road
4:15pm – 5:00pm Afternoon tea – socialising back at Jackie’s house
