Landcaring in Christmas
Hills
The third in the program of Christmas Hills Landcare activities for 2009 is:
“Country in common”
Christmas Hills Landcare hosts a number of Wurundjeri people for afternoon tea and informal conversation
at Pip and Doug’s property
40 Dean Road
from 3:30pm – 4:30pm on Sunday, 21st June, 2009
The bushfires of February burnt a lot of the traditional country of the Wurundjeri people. In response the Wurundjeri Tribe Land and Compensation Cultural Heritage Council Inc. has organised a bus trip for about 20 Wurundjeri people to have a look at some of their burnt country, and gain a better understanding of the impact. At the same time they also expressed interest in connecting to other community groups with similar interests, and immediately thought of Landcare.
To this end, Christmas Hills Landcare Group has offered to host the bus trip participants for afternoon tea on their way back to their base in Abbotsford.
The Wurundjeri Tribe Land and Compensation Cultural Heritage Council Inc. share our interest in caring for the natural assets of our part of the world, including weed control, and there will be an opportunity to explore the possibility of working together for the same goals.
Weather permitting, we will hold this gathering outside amongst the trees.
This is a unique opportunity for us to connect with the traditional owners of Christmas Hills and other country in the Yarra catchment.
Please bring picnic blankets, camping chairs and something for afternoon tea
