Judith Ellerton’s property drops steeply from the ridge along Skyline Road down towards the Watsons Creek valley. It was also burnt during the 2009 fires, and all that remains of Judith’s house is a stone wall she constructed herself. There are infestations of the environmental weed Bluebell Creeper, and some weedy wattle and melaleuca species.

At this event you will learn to recognise these weeds, and have demonstrated some of the relevant control methods available to you. This will help you with control of any of these species that occur on your property.

Using tools from the Christmas Hills Landcare Tool Trailer, we will then practice some of these methods to control the weeds on Judith’s property. This will help Judith, your neighbour, with managing the weeds on her property.

It is likely to be hard work – on very steep slopes in potentially wet weather – so come prepared. Please note that there is no power or shelter on the property, so we will be having afternoon tea outside. There will be facility to boil water for hot drinks, but you will need to bring your own chairs.

Please wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather on the day

The rough program for the day is:

2:00pm – 2:30pm Weed identification – samples of some of the weeds occurring on Judith’s block, and common to Christmas Hills, will be displayed to help you identify them

2:30pm – 4:00pm Weed control methods – demonstration and practice of weed control methods, to help you learn and to help Judith with the weeds on her property

4:00pm – 5:00pm Afternoon tea – socialising with neighbours
