The fourth in the program of Christmas Hills Landcare activities for 2007 is:
“Indigenous Plant Propagation”
A talk and practical demonstration
at Garry and Mandy’s place
792 Skyline Road
from 2pm - 5pm on Saturday, 25th August, 2007
Speakers are:
Julie and Kahn Franke
Owners and managers of (recently closed) Wyeena Nursery, Smiths Gully
We will learn more about:
- Seed collection – how to recognise when seed is ripe, how to collect
- Seed cleaning – how to separate the seed from the ‘chaff’
- Seed storage – how to keep seed for later
- Seed sowing – how to sow diferent types of seed
- Seed dormancy – how to get seeds to germinate
- Propagation from cuttings – how to grow some species without seed
- Different potting media – which mix for what purpose
- Watering – how much and when to water
- Pricking out and potting on – transferring young seedlings to bigger pots
If you have any local indigenous seed of your own, feel free to bring it with you – for show and tell, or sowing if you wish

4:30pm – 5:00pm Afternoon tea – socialising with neighbours
