There is an extensive variety of fungi occurring in and around Christmas Hills. With the fungi season typically starting in April and running through to July, this event will introduce you to this fascinating part of nature, just as the 2011 season gets started.

Bruce Fuhrer is a well known naturalist and one of Australia’s leading botanical photographers. He is the author, co-author and illustrator of several botanical publications on fungi, mosses, liverworts and wildflowers. His most recent publication “A field guide to Australian fungi” is considered the most comprehensive photographic field guide on Australian fungi yet published.

In 1989 Bruce was awarded The Australian Natural History medallion. In 1991 he received an honorary M.Sc. from Monash University in Melbourne, where he worked for nearly 25 years in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. On his retirement in 1996 he was appointed an Honorary Research Associate at Monash.

3:00pm  – 4:00pm               Field walk – to look for examples of local fungi

4:00pm  – 5:00pm               Afternoon tea – socialising with neighbours
