This event is part of
A property visit and weed control works
Landcaring in Christmas Hills
The third in the program of Christmas Hills Landcare activities for 2008 is:
“Thistles, blackberries and DVDs”
A property visit and weed control works
at Graham and Fran’s property
at 136 Westering Road
2pm - 5pm on Sunday, 5th October, 2008
Fran and Graham Jennings own an 8 hectare property west of Sugarloaf Dam that is mainly pasture with a few cattle, and some bush. Thistles and blackberry resprouting from underground corms are the main weeds they have to deal with at present.
We will take a walk around parts of the property to both admire its natural values and chip out thistles or cut and paint blackberry as we go.
During afternoon tea we will get a preview of a DVD produced by local Nev Ragg titled “Up Close in Christmas Hills” that features close up photos and video footage of local flora and fauna, backed by classical guitar music by another local, Geoff Penny. Copies will be available for sale at $20 each, with all profits split between the Christmas Hills Fire Brigade and the Christmas Hills Landcare Group.
Please wear sturdy footwear, and bring any of: secateurs, small mattock, gardening gloves, herbicide dabber bottles (for applying herbicide to cut surfaces). Please note it may be muddy.
For those who did not receive a herbicide dabber bottle (empty shoe polish dispensers) earlier this year you can get one to use on the day and take home to use on weeds there.

4:00pm – 5:00pm Afternoon tea – socialising at Graham and Fran’s house and preview of Nev’s DVD
