Northern Bendigo Landcare Group has been recognised for their innovation, energy and commitment to building community through conservation.
In September 2017, the group was named finalists in the Victorian Landcare Awards; Urban Landcare category and as semi-finalists in the Victorian Regional Achievement and Community Awards; Parks Victoria Environmental Sustainability category.
The Victorian Regional Achievement and Community Award nomination recognises the Landcare Group’s Bendigo Creek Restoration Project that has seen them undertake revegetation, weed control, installation of nest boxes, monitoring and unique community and school field days to raise awareness of the Bendigo Creek Streamside Reserve between Epsom and Huntly.
The Victorian Landcare Award nomination recognises the innovative community projects the group implement in their peri-urban area to connect all sectors of the community with nature. By collaborating with a variety of other community groups and local schools / kindergartens and offering unique educational experiences, interesting volunteering opportunities and awareness raising campaigns, the Landcare Group has reached a wide audience and promoted custodianship of the natural environment among the entire community.
