Paddock and pasture management for those who keep horses, sheep or cattle in Christmas Hills

A presentation and field walk at

Deb’s place at 109 Osborne Road

10am - 3pm on Sunday, 21st February, 2010

There are many landholders in Christmas Hills who keep horses, sheep or cattle on their property.

This event will help you better understand how you can manage your stock and your property in ways that protect the land and our local environment, whilst taking care of the health and safety of your animals.

David Stewart and Penny Richards of the Department of Primary Industries will cover:

  • grazing patterns of horses, sheep and cattle, and implications for pasture management
  • achieving and maintaining healthy pastures on local soils with little or no fertiliser
  • encouraging native pasture
  • basic property planning principles and paddock layout

David Stewart has been involved in farm management for more than 30 years and is currently coordinating DPI’s Services and Information for New Landholders Project in Gippsland.

Penny Richards has been involved in Whole Farm Planning for nearly 20 years with specialist skills in soil conservation, and is currently DPI’s Bushfire Recovery Coordinator.

Lunch will be a DIY BBQ with BYO meat – Deb has kindly offered to provide salads and bread.

Please wear sturdy footwear, and dress to suit the weather
